Our Trust Leadership Team

The Senior Executive team at Kernow Learning is led by the CEO, Clare Crowle, and the Kernow Learning Board of Trustees.

Clare is an experienced, successful educational leader, having been involved in Academies and Multi-Academy Trusts since 2010. Prior to her appointment as Kernow Learning CEO in April 2022, she was a Headteacher of an outstanding school (Trenance Learning Academy), Executive Headteacher of two schools, a National Leader of Education, Regional School Improver and the Deputy CEO of Kernow Learning.

Clare has been instrumental in establishing the OneCornwall Teaching School Hub, Kernow English Hub and enabling a successful bid for Kernow Learning to become jointly designated as one of the Regional Associate Research Schools for the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).

Throughout her professional career, Clare has made the quality of education and outcomes for the children her focus. She believes that the sharing of best practice is an important strand in the shaping of the new national educational landscape and that the strong, clear systems of governance at Kernow Learning are key to the Trust continuing to go from strength to strength.

Mr Matt Middlemore Deputy CEO

Matt Middlemore
Deputy CEO

Matt is the Deputy CEO of Kernow Learning. He is also an Ofsted Inspector and was previously one of Her Majesty's Inspectors. Matt started his career in secondary education before working in middle schools and then moving into the primary sector. He has extensive senior leadership experience, focusing on school improvement, mathematics and working with teachers to raise achievement, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. Matt is a former primary headteacher of the year and worked nationally to develop the use of pupil premium funding. In 2017, Matt’s school was named the South West Pupil Premium Champions. Matt is passionate that all children reach their full potential and is determined that all children do!

David began his career in education as an apprentice Teaching Assistant at St Agnes School before studying for a degree and post-graduate qualification in Education Studies. David worked in SEND and pastoral support before becoming a School Business Professional. David has worked in special and mainstream schools in both primary and secondary sectors, overseeing large school building projects, the conversion of numerous academies and the opening of a number of Free Schools.

David and his team of colleagues within the Shared Services team are committed to ensuring that our Trust is able to fully support schools’ successes by driving forward service efficiencies, maximising the funding we receive, and releasing schools from business and administration to allow school leaders to focus on teaching and learning.

Pamela is an experienced teacher and leader; she has been working in Cornish primary schools since 1999. She has recently been Head at Trenance Learning Academy and has led the Kernow English Hub since 2018. Pamela has worked closely with the DfE as South West representative on the English Hub National Council since 2019. Pamela has recently been Strategic Lead of OneCornwall Teaching School Hub West and has worked with secondary colleagues to develop professional development programmes bringing national speakers to Cornwall. Pamela has a passion for school improvement and is determined to ensure all pupils get the best start in life.

Lisa Farmer - Executive Safeguarding Lead

Lisa is an experienced safeguarding lead. Lisa has previously held the position of education safeguarding lead for Staffordshire County Council and was both an Emergency duty worker and First Response Worker in Staffordshire’s multi-agency safeguarding hub. Lisa is an experienced safeguarding trainer and has sat on many child safeguarding practice reviews and child death overview panels. She has worked effectively with other agencies as part of child exploitation task groups and with Staffordshire Police as part of R.A.S.S.O. (Rape and Serious Sexual Offences), MARAC (Multi-agency Risk Assessment Conferences) and Channel Panel meetings. (For adults and children at risk of radicalisation). Lisa currently oversees safeguarding and attendance across all of our schools,

Tanya Banks - Executive Sendco Lead

Tanya Banks
Executive SENDCo Lead

Tanya is a qualified ‘Autism Champion’, ‘Dyslexia Champion’ and ‘Designated Teacher for children in care and looked after children. She currently works closely with SENDCO’s and Headteachers across most Kernow Learning schools. She started as a SENDCO more than

20 years ago at Camelford Primary School which was rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED in 2011. She is an experienced Area Resource Base teacher and manager, working with children with complex needs. She worked as an Educational Consultant with Cornwall Council’s SEND team to deliver training for the National Award for SENDCO’s, the Educational Psychology team to support area SENDCO groups, and the Cognition and Learning team to inspect schools applying for the ‘Inclusive Dyslexia Friendly Award.’ Tanya is also an NIoT NPQSEND Facilitator.
